Kaisen Kaiten Sushi Bar

Kaisen Kaiten Sushi Bar is not just another sushi restaurant, but a sushi revolution. This is a Japanese restaurant that serves both regular meals and sushi, but the special part of this is that the sushi is served on a revolving conveyor belt. It is located across South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, near Irvine area.  From the outside, it does not look inspiring, but just take one step in this place, and you will think otherwise. The moment you entered, you are immediately greeted in Japanese, and welcomed in. The inside is bright and modern, there are only four booths, but most of the seating is around the conveyor belt bar. From there you can order your food, and pick it up from the conveyor belt. Also in the meantime, you can choose from a variety of selections already on the conveyor belt. A simple, but revolutionary idea for dining, highly recommended, and the conveyor belt keeps going around and around.

Testimonials:

Above all Kaisen Kaiten was a fun experience. The concept of the rotating conveyor belt of sushi, the lively atmosphere, and the great service make Kaisen worth trying. The sushi here, as all sushi should be, was light and refreshing but still full of flavor. They have a great variety of sushi and sashimi. Everything on the conveyor belt was very reasonably priced from $0.99 to $3.50 a plate and you can order their specialty items off the menu as well. This place is perfect if you would like something quick, healthy, and affordable to eat or as a place to relax with a group of friends after a long day at the beach. Overall it was a great experience. The only negative thing I would have to say is that if your eyes are bigger than your stomach, the plates can add on fast.

This was my first time coming here to Kaisen and the experience was mediocre at best. I wanted to eat some delicious sushi, but there were very few choices of sushi to order. This place in my opinion seems to be like a place to order the hand rolls rather than sushi. They always have a special on their hand rolls and it is at $1.25. I ordered the scallop hand roll, spicy tuna hand roll, and salmon skin hand roll. The scallop and spicy tuna hand rolls were good, but the salmon skin wasn't tasteful. A downside to this place was the fact that i had to remember what i ordered because the food comes to you by the conveyor belt. It is an intriguing idea, but still confusing to me if i don't remember what i ordered. Will I come back to this place that is next to South Coast Plaza mall? Its kind of hard to answer, but I if i can remember the way back to Kaisen then I'll drop by. I rate this place as 3.5/5 stars.

Well this was not the first time I tried this place. We were at a road bump when we were trying to decide where to eat, so I suggested this place. I knew we all would enjoy this place for the simple reason of a revolving conveyor belt serving you your food. It is an idea adapted and seen all over Japan, and I am glad to have finally found a place like that here in SoCal. The food was decent, not bad, not great, just good. From experience, $20.00 can completely fill you up, and the specials are always great. Whenever I come here, I only get the handrolls, just a personal preference. However, not only do you come here for the food, but also for the environment.
